Yunel Escobar goes to Toronto and Alex Gonzalez Goes to Atlanta

Today, the Atlanta Braves swapped Yunel Escobar for Alex Gonzalez, and Escobar goes to the Toronto Blue Jays. This was part of a five player deal in which the Braves also acquired minor league pitcher Tim Collins and minor league shortstop Tyler Pastornicky, and sent left hander Jo Jo Reyes to Toronto.

So far this season, Gonzalez has been hitting .259 with 17 homeruns and 50 RBIs. Escobar has been struggling this season hitting 0.238 with 0 homeruns and 19 RBIs. Toronto GM Alex Anthopoulos is confident that Escobar will be able to turn things around and will be a significant contributor for the remainder of the season.

The Braves will also be gaining more salary, consdiering Gonzalez's contract is for almost $3 million, where as Escobar was making just slightly over $400,000. It will be interesting to see how this trade pans out over the rest of the season.
